On Tuesday, February 20,2018 Rockland county Legislature passed 2 resolutions to reduce real property taxes for veterans.
The Cold War Veterans Exemption calls extending the exemption available to veterans of the Cold War. Cold war veterans served in the US Armed forces between Sept2, 1945 and Dec. 20, 1991. The law provides a max 15% tax exemption on a veteran’s primary residence that cannot exceed $40,000.
The Alternate Veterans Exemption, a second proposal, calls for increasing the max allowable exemption for wartime, combat, and disabled veterans. The new law would increase the home value cap for the exemption to $250,000; up from $180,000.
