Turn signals are a built in safety system but you have to manually activate it. It seems like very few drivers care anymore. I don’t get it! It is for both the driver’s and fellow road user’s safety. I did some research finding 48% of drivers do not signal lane changes and 1 in 4 do not signal turns. In a survey 42% said they didn’t have time and 23% admitted they were just too lazy to bother to signal. In New York failure to signal a lane change is the fifth most common cause of accidents and improper turning was number seven. It goes deeper than that though. A citation for failure to signal could raise your insurance rates and could be a reason for denial of a claim if issued in conjunction with an automobile accident.
Let’s get smart, courteous, and safe out there on our roads. They are dangerous enough without adding to it.
