Rivertown Film is presenting three films for January and February.
First on January 23 at 8pm Backpack Full Of Cash, This film which narrated by Matt Damon looks into the growing privatization of public schools and its impact on our nation’s most vulnerable children. Follow parents, teachers and activists through the 2013-2014 school year, viewers see inside the big city public education. Explore the world of education reform as resource starved school districts hang in balance. Meet the filmmakers for discussion after the film.
Wednesday February 10 at 8pm brings the local premiere of a film about one Rockland County resident, made by another Rockland County resident. Building Magic, a film about Mario “the Magician” Marchese. Marchese is a husband, father, performer, maker, inventor, artist and creator, much like the old-time vaudevillians. Mario is much more than a throwback, prepare to be amazed. Meet the filmmaker, discussion will follow as well as a rare demonstration of Mario’s inventions.
Saturday, February 20 at 8pm See the film “Mustang”, the story of five free-spirited sisters living with their grandparents in Turkey. After violating the harsh rules of their society with an innocent romp on the beach, they are imprisoned in the house. Bars on windows, wife lessons instead of school and meetings with perspective husbands lead the girls to sneak away. Ultimately their heroism shines as they make noise against the confines of their culture.
